 She hails from Kanagawa Prefecture and her Yatsu-Jomon-Ori weaving master is Yoshichiro Takagi (Ichiki Ito Store @ Kamisuwa).

After getting married, she worked at a senior care facility, which led her to pursue studies in psychology and welfare in graduate school. Upon completing her studies, she worked in medical institutions, welfare facilities, and educational settings as a psychologist and social worker.

Later, after experiencing a serious illness, she took the time to reflect on herself and confront life. During this period, she encountered weaving in Suwa, a place that changed her life.

Fascinated by the infinite possibilities hidden within the patterns of Yatsu-Jomon-Ori weaving, she studied under Yoshichiro Takagi. While enjoying the freedom of exploring pattern designs, she embraced her master’s words, “Weave with good health,” and devoted herself to weaving with great care and attention.

結婚後、高齢者施設に勤務したことをきっかけに、大学院にて心理・福祉を学び、修了後は医療機関や福祉施設、教育現場等で、 心理職やソーシャルワーカーとして仕事に従事する。

その後、大きな病気を経験し、改めて自分自身を見つめ、 人生と向き合っていたとき、訪れた諏訪の地で機織りと出会う。

織りなす柄に、無限の可能性を秘めた八つ縄文織りに魅せられ、 高木義一朗氏に師事。自由に柄の世界を楽しみながら、「健やかな織りを」という師匠からの言葉を胸に、丁寧に織りに取り組む。


2020: Established Handwoven Workshop Jomon

2022: Opened the Yugawara Workshop

2023, 2024: Held exhibitions at Sogo Yokohama Store

2024: Participated in the 21st Century Art Borderless Exhibition (National Art Center, Tokyo) and displayed two pieces of Yatsu-Jomon-Ori fabric

The most important aspect of weaving is the "Aya" (the weave pattern). When a thread breaks, it is crucial to find the matching pair of threads here and repair the weave. Her master always said, "Never break the Aya." There is a story that illustrates the importance of Aya: When the wooden stick that maintains the Aya slipped, her master became so frantic that they ended up breaking a bone due to their overwhelming haste.

織りでもっとも重要な「綾」。糸が切れた際はここの糸のペアを見つけ出し、糸を修復する。彼女の師匠は絶対綾は崩すなと言っていたとのこと。師匠は、この綾を保つ木の棒が滑り落ちそうになった際に、あまりに焦ったせいで勢い余って骨折してしまったのこと。綾の重要性を説明するエピソードである。



The threads are passed through based on the blueprint and data. It is a process so meticulous it can make one feel faint. Preparing to start the weaving requires an immense amount of effort. It’s said that about 70% of the work is already done before the weaving even begins. In fact, approximately 1,300 threads are used for the width of this weaving, and sorting them is an enormous task. There is nothing but deep respect for this process.

ここに設計図・データを元に糸を通す。気が遠くなるような行程である。このように織りを始めるまでの準備にかなりの労力を要する。織りを始めるまでに7割方は終わったも同然とのこと。実際この織りの横幅に約1300本の糸が使われており、それを仕分けるのだから、途方もない作業である。尊敬の念しかない。

This umbrella features a parasol with the fabric design printed on it, created from Beppu-san’s fabric design.

この傘は別府さんの生地のデザインがプリントされた日傘である。





The challenge of paper thread has also begun. She has been learning how to make paper thread by visiting a master in Miyagi Prefecture. The goal is to use this thread as the weft in Yatsu-Jomon-Ori weaving. The collaboration between paper thread and Yatsu-Jomon-Ori weaving is something to look forward to.

紙糸への挑戦も始まっている。宮城県にいる紙糸の師匠の元に通い紙糸の作り方を学んだ。八つ縄文織りの横糸にこの糸を使うのが目標とのこと。紙糸と八つ縄文織りのコラボレーションは楽しみである。


Her attitude of constantly challenging herself in pursuit of her interests inspires me to do my best as well. She has a grand dream of holding a solo exhibition of Yatsu-Jomon-Ori weaving in the Marais district of Paris, where many galleries are located. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to visit her workshop. I look forward to meeting her again.

Nishiki Dyeing Yarn-Dyeing Workshop　にしき染色さん　糸染め体験会

 I attended the thread dyeing workshop I was invited to during my previous factory tour! It was an incredible experience where I could feel the refined skills of the artisans firsthand. Not only did I get to try something so unique, but it also became a tangible memory that I’ll cherish forever. I had an amazing time!! 前回工場見学をさせていただいたときにお誘いいただいた糸染体験会にお邪魔しました！職人さんの洗練された技術を身をもって経験することができた上に、その体験が形に残り、僕のかけがえのない思い出になりました。めちゃくちゃ楽しかったです！！ ① Adding Dye to the Bucket Using a color sample as a reference, I created my own preferred color. Since the final result would be lighter than the color in the bucket, adjusting the tone was a bit tricky. ①染料をバケツに入れる 色見本を参考に、自分好みの色を作りました。バケツに入っている色よりも淡い色に仕上がるとのことでしたので、調整が難しかったです。 ② Rolling the Silk This step was challenging for me.
